Team Picker Wheel — Randomly Assign Players to Teams
Anyone who has watched two captains alternate picking teammates knows how that system goes: the last few people standing feel publicly ranked. The team picker wheel sidesteps all of that. Each player spins once, and wherever it lands, that's their team. The process is transparent, fast, and no one ends up last.
The default wheel has four teams, which covers most casual sport and party game setups. One spin per participant and you're done. For smaller groups, delete down to two or three teams. For larger groups with specific team names — house colours, company departments, quiz team names — replace the labels in the editor.
Teachers and PE instructors will find this especially useful for keeping classroom activities fair over time. Because the wheel is genuinely random on each spin, the same students won't end up on the same team week after week the way they would if you just counted off.

How to use
- 1
Have each participant spin once — wherever it lands is their team.
- 2
Edit the team names to match your activity: colours, house names, or custom labels.
- 3
Delete segments to reduce the number of teams, or add new ones for larger groups.
- 4
Share the wheel so remote participants or split groups can all spin the same one.
Frequently asked questions
How many teams does the wheel support?
The default is four teams, but you can add or remove segments to support any number. Two teams for a simple split, six teams for a large tournament bracket — edit however you need.
Can I use custom team names instead of Team 1, 2, 3, 4?
Yes — open the editor and replace the labels with whatever names suit your event. House colours, company names, pub quiz team names, or player handles all work.
What if one team ends up with more people than another?
That can happen with a perfectly random wheel, especially with small groups. If exact balance matters, remove a team from the wheel once it's full so remaining players fill the other teams.
Is this fair for sports teams in PE class?
Yes, and it's specifically useful in classrooms because it's visibly fair. Students see the result in real time and can't argue the process was rigged.
Can I save a version with my team names for future use?
Yes — after editing the labels, click Share to get a permanent link. Bookmark it and load the same custom team wheel next time.
